UniTime - Net Time Client and Server for WfW & Windows NT Version 1.0 ========================================================================= This product, consisting of four programs, allows to synchronize the time of machines in a LAN running Windows for Workgroups (WfW) or Windows NT. For both network operating platforms is a client and server program included, this means that a WfW machine can act as a time-client and/or as a time server, the same holds true for a Windows NT machine, and, of course, a Windows NT machine can be a time-client for a WfW time-server and vice versa. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- WFWTIME.EXE - WfW Time-Client ----------------------------- This program is a Windows program which when started tries to get the current time from a time-server and sets it as the new local machine time. Usage: WFWTIME [|] If no or parameter is given the program will look for a time-server in the workgroup/domain the local machine is part of. If the parameter is given only this machine will be polled which must have the time-server program/service running. Do NOT precede the name of the computer with "\\". If the parameter is given the programm will look for a time server in this workgroup/domain. At program startup it will display itself as an icon and immediately try to get the current time from a time-server. If successfull or not will be indicated by a different icon. The program will terminate itself after 10 seconds. WFWTMSRV.EXE - WfW Time-Server ------------------------------ This program is a Windows program which acts as a time-server. Usage: WFWTMSRV There is not much to say about this program, just start it to make the computer a time-server. The running program will display itself as an icon. NTTIME.EXE - Windows NT Time-Client ----------------------------------- This program is the time-client application for Windows NT, implemented as a WIN32 console application. Display this info NTTMSRV.EXE - Windows NT Time-Server ------------------------------------ This program is the time-server application for Windows NT, implemented as a user mode service. As a service it must be registered prior to its use. This can be done by using the utility INSTSRVC.EXE, which is included in this product. Example: INSTSRVC TimeSource c:\ntutil\nttmsrv.exe After registering the service it can be started and configured by using the services applet in the control panel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note 1: ------- If there are two or more time-servers in a workgroup/domain a time-client will receive the time from the time-server which reponds first.
